Minutes of the J.A. Meeting

Meeting Date:   Feb. 4, 2009

Vice-president Joyce Shindo called the meeting to order at 7:37 PM.

Corrections/Additions to Previous Minutes

Corrections from Dec. minutes - a $250.00 donation from the Ajari family in memory of Charlie Ajari.

 

Treasurer’s ReportDavid Ziesmer presented the treasurer’s report

 

 Acknowledgements/Announcements

1.      Donation to building fund for $ 500.00 from Gakuen.

2.      Donation to the building fund for $200.00 from the Taiko club.

JARCC – Sam Sunada

·         Acknowledge Jon Yokoyama for being the lead in the JA hall improvements December 27-30.  Thank you to all his helpers: Bob Okubo, Marc Goto, Ron Onizuka, Bruce Tamura, Ken Baba, Wayne Akiyama, Sam Sunada, Rique Yokoyama, Nerisa Yokoyama, Derek Akiyama, Alan Kinoshita, David Kinoshita and Jeffrey Sunada.  Thank you to Rosa Yokoyama who brought lunch all 4 days for the crew.

Buddhist Fellowship - Sharon Akiyama

  • Saturday night service on Feb 7th at 5:30 p.m.

Jr. YBA – Sharon Akiyama

 

  • Planning an udon feed in the near future

 

Nippongo GakuenYale Kofman and Sandi Svoboda

  • General Mtg. one week ago.  All participants were reminded of their duty to work summer festival AND sell raffle tickets.                                                   
  • Reported the fire alarm went off when the front door was opened 2 weeks ago.  Some confusion as to the protocol of what to do.                        * The protocol on “what to do if the fire alarm goes off” is posted inside the front door and the back door by the kitchen.  The proper phone #’s of who to call are on this form.  Please evacuate the building and call the appropriate person’s listed.
  • No school Sat. Feb. 14th
  • It was noted that the front hallway has been full of leaves on many Saturdays as well as some evenings.  Please keep the door closed to minimize this mess. Please sweep out or use a leaf blower if possible

Athletic Club – Dave Uemura

·         March 8-9 is Shaugnessey.  Look for the flier in the newsletter and PLEASE order chicken dinners for this is the Athletic club’s major fundraiser of the year.

Building Superintendent – Jon Yokoyama

·         Thank you to all that helped to clean-up and paint at the end of December

·         Trim on the doors is still to be painted.  Please do not remove the painters tape!

·         If anything is broken, lights go out etc., PLEASE contact Jon

Gardeners’ Club – No Representative

  • No report.

Ikenobo Club – Pat Baba

  • New Years party was last Sunday and enjoyed by all.
  • They have more new members

 

 

 

 

     JASEB –Yukio Kitagawa

 

·         2/22 will be the Annual Crab Feed.  New location will be the El Cerrito Community Center.  Dinner begins at 4 p.m.  Request annual donation of $25.00 for a door prize, cookies and 2 tickets for the JA club president to attend.

·         3/28 the seniors will be attending the Shinnenkai in Union City.  A bus will leave the JA club at 9:30 a.m. and return at 3 p.m

 

    Judo Club - Leslie Hisaka

 

  • No report.

 

    Diablo Kendo Club – Mike Espinosa

 

  • Thank you to Suwa’s for hosting our Installation dinner that was enjoyed by all.
  • Thank you to Bea Tamichi for the beautiful flowers, Judith Aono for being MC, the co-ed exercise class for their help along with Joshua Ziesmer, Satoshi Yuki and David Zeismer (Kendo club)  There were 73 people in attendance.

 

  Shinwakai – Yukio Kitagawa

 

  • Feb mtg is the 3rd Sat.
  • March mtg. is the 4th Sat.

 

 

     Diablo Taiko Club – Peter DeGennaro

 

  • Their general meeting was one week ago.  Thank you to Sam Sunada who attended and advised the group of the importance of helping out at the summer festival (and selling tickets).
  • The group had an impromptu performance at the Shinwakai mtg. last Saturday which they enjoyed playing for the seniors.

 

   Summer Festival – Ron Onizuka

 

  • Work has begun on the poster design.

 

     Membership Chairperson – Laura Takeuchi

 

  • The directory is almost complete.  The board will vote on how to distribute.

 

    Old Business

 

·        We were advised by Arlene Nielson as to the money spent on the Holiday party, # in attendance, etc.

     New Business

 

·        Plans for distribution of the new membership roster still in discussion. 

·        PLEASE do not bounce balls on the newly painted walls in the gym

·        Please look at the Fire Alarm protocol posted in the hall to familiarize yourself with it

·        Please be mindful of the wind blowing in leaves into the front hall
